Making Impact in ALS Research

September 6, 2019

A recent NBC Nightly News report showcased the impact of funds raised through the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, including The ALS Association’s ongoing support of NYGC’s Center for Genomics of Neurodegenerative Disease (CGND) to advance collaborative ALS research.

The CGND’s latest research includes working with global collaborators to develop a multidimensional gene expression atlas that offers unprecedented detail into ALS disease progression, recently featured in Science, which may reveal novel targets for designing therapeutics and diagnostics. The atlas provides framework for further mapping of the central nervous system and its modes of dysfunction, to aid research into not just ALS but also other neurodegenerative diseases including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease.

Watch the NBC Nightly News report below on the Ice Bucket Challenge impact, featuring a quote from Dr. Phatnani.
