The New York Genome Center Participates in Their First Annual School Supply Drive

August 20, 2015

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) has supplied 22 kindergarten children living in shelters with brand new backpacks filled with supplies for this up coming school year.

NYGC’s Social Action Committee recently partnered with Volunteers of America as part of their Operation Backpack initiative, which strives to put 20,000 backpacks in the hands of homeless children in New York City, serving over 170 shelters in need.

Donations were collected in order to purchase supplies to fill backpacks for children ranging in ages from Pre-K to 12th grade. The team plans to continue the school supply drive and make it an annual event.
