Volkan Okur joined the Clinical Lab team as an Assistant Director of Molecular Diagnostics in July 2021. His role encompasses analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and reporting molecular diagnostic test results for Constitutional Genomic or Oncology assays and participate in new and ongoing clinical assay development.
Dr. Okur attended medical school and finished his Medical Genetics residency in his native Turkey. He emigrated to the USA in 2015 and first worked with Dr. Wendy Chung at Columbia University where he has been involved in new gene-disease associations. He then moved to Houston to complete his Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine/Baylor Genetics Laboratories before joining the New York Genome Center family. He serves on the board of CSNK2A1 Foundation and is a member of ClinGen Hereditary Cancer Gene Curation Panel.
